Advancement and Promotion Opportunities

Within the 101st Airborne Division, there are many ways to advance. Advancement is not necessarily solely promotions, it includes position, responsibility and skill level advancements.

As a member, you will have the opportunity to move up within the unit to leadership roles that will allow you to become a leader of Soldiers and make a difference here in the 101st. Besides the traditional leadership roles within an Infantry Company, you will have the opportunity to advance to positions such as Drill Sergeant, Recruiter, Military Police, Adjutant, and Public Affairs NCO.

Promotion to a higher rank/grade is a reward for a combination of many different factors that guage a Soldier's deserving of the increased rank. When awarding promotions, the Promotion Boards factor in a Soldier's good conduct, attendance, competency, dedication, professionalism, loyalty, Promotion Points, Time in Service (TIS) and Time in Grade (TIG).

With a promotion, however, comes increased responsibility. By promoting a Soldier, the unit is placing trust in that individual to continue to make a difference and work hard towards improving the 101st Airborne Division. Promotions will allow a Soldier to advance to higher positions and leadership roles in which they will be charged with the responsibility of as little as 3 other Soldiers or as many as 50.

Finally, as an individual gains rank, that Soldier is given also increased influence in the overall decision making of the unit. The level of influence will increase as rank is gained and trust is built between the higher echelon of the unit and the rising Soldier.
