The sole requirement for attainment of the rank of Private Trainee is successful enlistment into the 101st Airborne Division Realism Unit.
Private Second Class is the entry-level rank for all personnel.. Primary role is to carry out orders issued to them to the best of his/her ability.
Requirements for the attainment of the rank of Private Second Class are successful completion of Basic Combat Training.

Private First Class is the entry-level rank for all OSUT Honor Graduates, and those who have met the requirements to be promoted from PV2. Primary role, like PV2s, is to carry out orders issued to them to the best of his/her ability.
Requirements for the attainment of the rank of Private First Class are successful completion of Advance Infantry Training.

Specialist is the backbone of the lower-enlisted and is capable of managing Soldiers of lower rank. Specialists are preparing themselves for entry into the NCO Corps by exhibiting leadership, poise and professionalism. Primary role is to carry out orders issued to them to the best of his/her ability and prepare themselves for future leadership roles.
Requirements for the attainment of the rank of Specialist are successful completion of the Time in Service requirement of at least 45 Days, Time in Grade at PFC of at least 30 days and approval by the Paratrooper's Fireteam Leader.

A Corporal is the first rank within the NCO Corps. A Corporal has exhibited leadership, professionalism and poise necessary to join the ranks of NCOs as a PFC and has completed the Warrior Leaders' Course, thereby not attaining the rank of Specialist. Primary role, is to assist the Fireteam Leader in any capacity and prepare for becoming a Fireteam Leader.
Requirements for the attainment of the rank of Corporal are successful completion of the Time in Service requirement of at least 45 Days, Time in Grade at PFC of at least 30 days, completion of WLC & approval/recommendation by the Squad Leader & Platoon Sergeant.

Sergeants are the backbone of the NCO Corps. A Sergeant has completed the Warrior Leaders' Course as a Specialist and exhibited all the skills necessary to become a Fireteam Leader. Primary role is to serve as a Fireteam Leader or the NCOIC of a staff section.
Requirements for the attainment of the rank of Specialist are successful completion of the Time in Service requirement of at least 60 Days, Time in Grade at SPC of at least 30 days, completion of WLC & approval/recommendation by the Platoon Sergeant.

Staff Sergeants are proven and effective Fireteam Leaders and are the lowest Senior NCOs. Primary role is to serve as a Squad Leader or the NCOIC of a staff section.
Requirements for the attainment of the rank of Staff Sergeant are successful completion of the Time in Service requirement of at least 90 Days, Time in Grade at SGT of at least 30 days, completion of the Basic NCO Course & approval/recommendation by the Platoon Sergeant & Platoon Leader.

Sergeants First Class are proven and effective combat leaders and have also become trusted and cool-headed advisors to the Platoon Leader and also join the Company Command Staff. Primary role is to serve as a Platoon Sergeant.
Requirements for the attainment of the rank of Sergeant First Class are successful completion of the Time in Service requirement of at least 120 Days, Time in Grade at SSG of at least 30 days, completion of the Advanced NCO Course & approval/recommendation by the Platoon Leader and Company First Sergeant.

Master Sergeants are proven and effective staff element leaders and serve within the Company Command staff as a Senior NCO advisor. Primary role is to serve as a staff section NCOIC.
Requirements for the attainment of the rank of Master Sergeant are successful completion of the Time in Service requirement of at least 160 Days, Time in Grade at SFC of at least 60 days, completion of the First Sergeant Course & approval/recommendation by the Company Commander.

First Sergeants are the embodiment of the NCO Corps. They are the principal NCO and life-blood of the company: the provider, disciplinarian and wise counselor. Primary role is to serve as the Company First Sergeant.
Requirements for the attainment of the rank of First Sergeant are successful completion of the Time in Service requirement of at least 180 Days, Time in Grade at SFC of at least 60 days, completion of the First Sergeant Course & approval/recommendation by the Company Commander.

Requirements for the attainment of the rank of Command Sergeant Major are successful completion of the Time in Service requirement of at least 210 Days, Time in Grade at 1SG of at least 90 days, completion of the Sergeants' Major Course & approval/recommendation by the Battalion Commander.

Warrant Officer 1 is a expert in certain military technologies or capabilities, most commonly seen as helicopter pilots. but is not limited to that field and can become involved in many specialized careers. Unlike officers the warrant officers have one defined specialty and will work with that one specialty for the rest of their career.
Requirements for the attainment of the rank of Warrant Officer 1 is successfull completion of the Time in Service requirement of at least 120 Days, currently be a E-4 or above, Completion of Warrant Officer Candidate's School, & approval/recommendation by the Battalion Commander.

Chief Warrant Officer 2 is a intermediate level, he is a tactical and technically proficient officer. They support team, detachment, or even up to battalion operations much like their WO1 counterparts. They have most of the same duties expect for more tactical and technical knowledge of the job he maintains.

Chief Warrant Officer 3 is a advance level, tactically and technically proficient officer. While supporting the same duties as their CW2/WO1 counterparts but can support up to a brigade level.
Requirements for the attainment of the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3 is successfull completion of the Time in Service requirement of at least 240 Days, Time in Grade requirement of at least 60 Days at Chief Warrant Officer 3 & approval/recommendation by Company Commander/Battalion Commander.

Chief Warrant Officer 4 is a senior-level tactical and technical expert. Primary duties are similar to its lesser ranks but it can support a division, corps or high level of operations. These officers are highly developed and should be close to becoming total experts in their field.

2nd Lieutenant is the doorway to the Officers' Corps and have earned the absolute trust of the Command Staff in their leadership abilities, professionalism and integrity. Primary role is to serve as a Platoon Leader.
Requirements for the attainment of the rank of 2nd Lieutenant are successful completion of the Time in Service requirement of at least 120 Days, completion of Officer Candidate's School & approval/recommendation by the Company Commander.

1st Lieutenants are seasoned lieutenants and have proven themselves thoroughly as a competent Platoon Leader and advance to heightened responsibility. Primary role is to serve as a specialty Platoon Leader or as the Company Executive Officer.
Requirements for the attainment of the rank of 1st Lieutenant are successful completion of the Time in Service requirement of at least 180 Days, Time in Grade requirement of 45 days at 2nd Lieutenant & approval/recommendation by the Company Commander.

The Captain is the senior Officer in a Company and oversees all aspects of the Company, while heeding the advice of his First Sergeant and other advisors. Primary role is to serve as the Company Commander, while staff assignments in Battalion Headquarters are possible.
Requirements for the attainment of the rank of Captain are successful completion of the Time in Service requirement of at least 240 Days, Time in Grade requirement of 60 days at 1st Lieutenant or the selection by the 101st Airborne Division Promotion Board in the event of a vacancy.

The Major is the second highest-ranking officer of the unit and serves primarily as the Battalion Executive Officer.
Requirements for the attainment of the rank of Major are successful completion of the Time in Service requirement of at least 300 Days, Time in Grade requirement of 60 days at Captain or the selection by the 101st Airborne Division Promotion Board in the event of a vacancy.

The Lieutenant Colonel serves primarily as the Battalion Commander, overseeing all aspects of the unit functions.
Requirements for the attainment of the rank of Lieutenant Colonel are successful completion of the Time in Service requirement of at least 360 Days, Time in Grade requirement of 90 days at Major or the selection by the 101st Airborne Division Promotion Board in the event of a vacancy.
